Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a 0.90 FTE Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner to join our Trauma/General Surgery teams. This position will be utilized by all four of our trauma teams to assist in post-call care as well as general inpatient care on teams that are busy. The PA/NP will interface with all levels and disciplines of the healthcare team to increase the quality of patient care, patient education and streamline the discharge process. This position will also support our staff surgeons in the Surgery Clinic as needed. This position will require flexibility on a day-to-day basis on filling in the needs of the Surgical and Trauma teams in the hospital and the clinic setting.
Schedule is Monday-Friday with one full weekend every 4-5 weeks in exchange for days off during the week. No overnight call.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help manage all aspects of trauma and post-operative patient care from admission to discharge in conjunction with resident Physician General Trauma Surgery teams
- Strong emphasis on post call duties – tertiary exams, discharges, coordinating care
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including attending physicians, other APPs, resident physicians, nurses, care coordinators, occupational therapies, physical therapists, and other supportive staff to expedite and maintain quality patient care
- Be willing to work with multiple teams in conjunction with current APP staff
- Independence with collaboration; must enjoy working in a resident-based practice
- Assist with the education and guidance of surgical residents
- Assist staff surgeons in clinic as needed
- Actively participate in quality improvement
- Assist with research; consider doing research
- Limited procedures, no OR time
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program
- Current, or eligibility for, MN license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant
- Certification in the area of specialization by an agency authorized to certify professional nurses in advanced practice
- BLS/ACLS certification
- ATLS certification after 2 years - we will provide (audit or complete course)
