The Housing Specialist will assist clients with disabilities, mental health diagnosis, substance use disorders to obtain stable and affordable housing. Common tasks are meeting with clients, assessing and overcoming barriers pertaining to housing, identifying and accessing community financial resources, and assisting clients in developing skills to maintain and retain stable housing.
Your role as Housing Specialist:
You will report to the program manager and have a caseload of 10-13 clients. You can expect your day-to-day responsibilities to include:
- A person centered approach to researching and resourcing housing opportunities for the client.
- Meet with clients in community settings and virtually.
- Visit and Tour potential housing properties with the client.
- Assist client with completing housing applications and supporting documentation.
- Advocate and resource to overcome any client related housing access issues.
- Coach the client to build and maintain tenant/property management relationships and tenant responsibilities/rights to support stable housing.
- Detailed documentation of individual client progress, and communication to internal and external parties.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Familiarity/work experience with: Medical Assistance, Section 8 Housing Voucher Program, Project Based Housing, Group Residential Housing (GRH) program, Section 42 based housing.
- Strong writing and documentation skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized and able to multi-task.
- Highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Coordinate and manage a weekly schedule.
- Basic computer skills using company issued iPad.
Job Requirements:
- Department of Human Services (DHS) Background Study.
- Valid Driver's License with good driving record.
- Maintain a reliable vehicle with valid auto insurance.
- Transport clients in your vehicle for housing related appointments.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
- Prefer a minimum of one year experience working in housing stabilization or similar services.
