Job Function: Scientist to work in a R&D USDA licensed facility for animal vaccine development. Experience in virology is needed.
The position will be responsible for isolation and propagation of equine viral isolates, growth and maintenance of cell lines, optimization and scale-up of vaccine isolates, and provide support to quality control groups and production groups for methods. The incumbent will be skilled at experimental design, sterile technique, data evaluation, project management, and problem solving. The incumbent must keep detailed records of activities and prepare written documents including research reports and method protocols. The incumbent may advise, direct and train junior staff in laboratory activities.
Education and Experience
MS or BS with experience
Qualifications
Experience in cell culture and sterile technique and experience with isolation and propagation of diverse viral strains.
Expertise in viral methods including viral identification and characterization. Ability to do serum neutralizations, hemagglutination assays, virus titration, plaque assays, inactivation kinetics etc.
Ability to balance multiple projects, meet deadline, meticulous record keeping skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work independently but also cooperate and work well with the entire R&D team.
Desirable but not required: Knowledge of veterinary vaccine research, USDA regulations of veterinary biologics. Molecular experience including RT-qPCR, DNA/RNA work, protein purification. Knowledge of ELISA assays is also desirable.
Salary Range begins at $40,000, adjusted for experience.
