Job Description
Successful law firm seeks an attorney to defend General Liability cases to join our Overland Park, KS office. Salary to be commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions:
- Gathering and reviewing medical evidence and medical records.
- Taking depositions of Plaintiffs, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
- Conducting discovery.
- Performing legal research.
- Remaining current with developments in the law.
- Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
- Litigating cases in Circuit Courts in Missouri, District Courts in Kansas and Federal Courts.
- Represent the interests of clients at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
- Communicate with claims representatives.
- Monitor loss run reports for trends and increases and alerts management to concerns.
- Assist with the investigation of accidents.
- Manage costs to reduce liability.
- Compile and submit reports required by company management.
- Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
- Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insured.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education, Skills, and Qualifications:
- J.D. and proof of admission to the Kansas and Missouri bar.
- Candidates with an UBE score of 266 or higher from another state will be considered.
- Proven track record of 2 years of experience general liability and civil claims defense.
- Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
- In depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.
- Microsoft Word experience required; Perfect Law legal software experience preferred.
- Firm and client confidentiality required.
