General Statement of Duties
Closing Date: This position closes on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
Performs routine duties relating to library circulation services; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
Primary duties include sorting, shelving, and shelf-reading library materials. They also handle other circulation duties such as library card registrations, checking out and in library materials, accepting payments, assisting customers with library equipment, and answering the phone.
Requires the ability to understand and to carry out oral and written directions accurately; to file alphabetically and numerically; to be familiar with and use a computer terminal and other library equipment; to demonstrate skill in data entry on a computer terminal; to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers; to calculate sums due for fines on overdue materials; to operate a POS system accurately; to operate a business phone; and to demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Requires a physical condition that will permit/allow for pushing a heavy book cart, using a step stool, bending/stooping, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of the tenth grade (graduation from high school is preferred); OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Positions will be filled at various Henrico County Library locations. Schedules may include a variety of shifts including mornings and evenings, weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. These are hourly/temporary positions. Assigned locations and work hours are subject to change according to the library's needs, and schedules will not exceed 29 hours per week.
