General Statement of Duties
This position will support the physical, cognitive, psychological and social needs of students with disabilities through music therapy in a PreK-12 public separate special education program.
Essential Duties
Must hold a bachelor's degree or higher in music therapy (or equivalent); must hold a valid MT-BC from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT), and must hold a valid license from the Board of Social Work to practice music therapy independently (once established).
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear.
Additional Information
The minimum salary for this 11-month /246-day position is $65,793. The salary quoted is based upon the 2024-25 salary scale and is subject to change with the adoption of the 2025-26 financial plan. Annual salaries are prorated based upon the actual work begin date.

Essential Duties
- Provides individual or small group music therapy interventions that are goal-oriented, support evidence-based practice, and are student focused.
- Designs music therapy sessions to address student needs such as music for self-care, adjusting to life changes, improving cognitive functioning, raising self-esteem, communicating and controlling impulses.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions and modifies strategies based on results.
- Collects and analyzes student data.
- Provides staff and family education about the role of music therapy.
- Uses a variety of techniques to support student participation in music therapy, including but not limited to songwriting, playing instruments, improvisation, listening to live or recorded music, and receptive music listening.
- Effective participation as a team member of an interdisciplinary team working together to support individual student needs.
- Other duties as assigned by the building principal.
