Description
This position enforces laws related to the protection of life and property, directs and controls traffic, prevents crime or disturbance of peace, and arrests violators.
Examples of Duties
Incumbent shall enforce all statutes, laws, ordinances, regulations and procedures of Department; maintains law and order, protects life and property and performing related assignments. Applicant shall become familiar with State Traffic Codes, Criminal Procedure Codes & Ordinances. Patrols assigned area on foot, by motorcycle, in patrol car, to enforce laws, prevent and discover crimes, investigate crimes, maintain order, and answer calls and complaints. Answers radio-dispatched or citizens' request for police services at the scene of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and peace disturbances.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Georgia driver's licenses; must submit a three (3) year Motor Vehicle Report at time of interview; completion of police training and education as required by Georgia Law; Good moral character; Honorable discharge ONLY for persons with military service; No felony or domestic violence convictions and must be physically fit and able to perform the duties of police officer.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and may require standing for extended periods of time. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, traffic hazards, bright / dim lights, toxic agents, animal / wildlife attacks, animal / human bites, explosives, firearms, violence, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude / irate customers.

Police Officer I - $53,482.28
Police Officer II - $56,156.39
Police Officer III - $58,964.21
Annual Leave
Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows :
Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.
Employees receive paid holidays as approved by the Board of Commissioners annually.
Insurance and Benefits
Insurance benefits are offered to full time employees working over 32 hours per week. New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment. All insurance and benefits premiums will be payroll deducted.

Employees who qualify are eligible to receive a monthly contribution to a Health Reimbursement Account to offset out-of-pocket eligible healthcare expenses. To qualify, employees must decline coverage under the HCBOC group medical insurance plan and be covered on a spouse's or parent's plan, or a group medical insurance plan that meets ACA requirements for Minimum Essential Coverage.

Life Insurance
Henry County Government provides life insurance for each eligible employee in an amount equal to the employee's one year's salary up to $200,000.00. Employees may purchase additional life insurance for themselves, and also may purchase life insurance for a spouse, and children up to age 26.
Short Term Disability Insurance
Henry County Government employees may purchase Short Term Disability Insurance, which provides protection against loss of income during a period of disability. This coverage begins seven days after the onset of the disability.
Long Term Disability Insurance
Henry County provides Long Term Disability Insurance for each eligible employee at no cost to the employee. The benefit starts after the employee is out of work for 180 days and continues until the employee reaches Social Security normal retirement age.

The Henry County employee's pension program is managed by the Association County Commissioner of Georgia (ACCG). Employees are required to contribute a percentage of their annual salary for the Defined Benefit Program. The required contribution percentages are based on the employee's classification (employees should contact Human Resources for complete details). ACCG manages an optional 457b Deferred Compensation Program for all eligible employees.
