What are the responsibilities and job description for the RECREATION LEADER position at Henry County Government?
The purpose of this position is to coordinate and implement recreational activities for the operations of Henry County Parks and Recreation.
- Assists customers at registration desk; provides public information about recreational programs; greets incoming participants and talks with parents and participants about program activities; registers participants for classes and athletic events; assists in maintaining registration filing system.
- Utilizes registration computer; receives fees for daily use, rentals, and registrations; secures all cash, cash receipts, and building at closing time; requests funds for programs; writes letters requesting donations for programs.
- Plans program activities; teaches various activities while providing individual guidance to participants; coordinates group activities with other staff members; assists in scheduling activities; assists in resolving participant complaints by recording complaints and referring to appropriate leadership.
- Assists in training volunteers and staff; assists with fundraisers and special events throughout the year; works with and coordinates efforts of volunteers on site; assists in preparation of events; distributes flyers, brochures, etc. to county schools; supervises participants at camps and trips.
- Maintains appropriate records, statistics, and supplies; prepares and submits reports as requested; maintains equipment records; ensures safety and security of equipment and facilities; checks out and checks in equipment; ensures facilities are clean at all times.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receives, reviews, records, types, and/or distributes documentation; enters data into computer systems; logs, tracks, or maintains records regarding department activities; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; completes accident and incident reports as needed; and files, maintains, and stores hardcopy records.
- Performs related clerical support: types and sends email messages; screens incoming email messages; and copies and distributes forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; operates fax machine to send/receive documentation; transmits faxes on behalf of department/division staff; distributes/delivers incoming faxes to appropriate personnel; transports mail and funds to main office; and replenishes paper supply in fax machine as needed.
- Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, law enforcement, participants, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Requires high school diploma or equivalent, and experience in clerical or customer service work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Special Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be flexible with schedules and available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must demonstrate good customer service and a positive attitude.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of local government operations, parks and recreation related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is moderate work requires the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (20-50 pounds). Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, and may require standing for extended periods of time. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, temperature and noise extremes, or violence.
