What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUPERVISOR II (SENIOR CENTER) position at Henry County Government?
The purpose of this position is to supervise the day-to-day operations of department or division staff, including supervising staff, coordinating special projects, conducting training, providing management support, and producing and reviewing reports.
Manages the day-to-day operations, programs, and activities of the assigned senior center.
Plans, organizes, and coordinates annual, quarterly, monthly, and daily activities and events for the senior center.
Establishes senior center goals and objectives in conjunction with guidance from the Director of Senior Services.
Plan’s duties and supervise the day-to-day activities of center staff.
Directs and evaluates job performance, in addition to preparing oral and written performance evaluations when needed.
Supervise the scheduling of transportation services with the Henry Transit Dispatcher for center participants.
Plan, organize and implement activities, trips and special events; assist in coordinating daily activities of the Senior Center. Assist in the scheduling of educational programs; assist in locating instructors and coordinating classes for senior clients; assist in the monitoring the facility to ensure that it is safe, secure, and properly maintained; assist with welcoming new Senior Center participants and briefing them on policies and procedures; provide companionship and assistance to senior center participants; assist with special projects on weekends and/or in evenings when necessary; performs related duties as required.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Communicates with supervisor, other County employees, clients, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Graduation from High School or GED equivalent. Desired Qualification's include Four years’ experience in social/human services or related field. Three years of general office management experience and two years’ experience in counseling and/or dealing with the senior population. Any equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Three (3) years of experience performing general office duties.
Two (2) years of experience working with the public (senior adult population preferred).
Two (2) years of experience planning programs and services to senior citizens or other special population group.
Two (2) years of supervisory experience
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must possess and maintain basic first aid and CPR certifications.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Knowledge of concepts of social service planning and delivery systems for senior adults; knowledge of federal, state, ARC and county guidelines regarding social services; knowledge of personal and performance counseling techniques; skill in oral and written communication along with interpersonal relations and public speaking; skill in planning, development and organization of comprehensive community-based social, recreational, vocational, nutritional service programs and activities for senior citizens.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of local government operations, management related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.
- Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.

Depending on area of assignment, performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
