The Detroit Promise Coach reports to the Detroit Promise Coordinator. The Detroit Promise  Coach is a member of an integrated team providing individual academic and personal support to an assigned group of Detroit Promise students. Coaches will support students for three full years, from their transition into college as first-time freshmen to their completion of a community college degree. The goal of the Detroit Promise Coach program is to increase semester to semester persistence, credit accumulation, and graduation rates among Detroit Promise students.

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

- Broad knowledge of community college philosophy, post-secondary preparation, student services, academic curriculum, and financial assistance programs to accurately advise students in alignment with college mission and goals.
- Ability to effectively lead, plan and coordinate activities and events. Work collaboratively with other departments and outside constituents to secure cooperation and coordinate programs.
- Ability to successfully educate and present information at orientation events to a wide variety of audiences to support and influence student success.
- Ability to gather and analyze data and produce reports from the data.

- Database Management Systems (DP)- Knowledge of the uses of database management systems, entering data, maintaining records, and integrity of data.
- Compliance Inspection (DP)- Knowledge of the Detroit Regional Chamber guidelines, regulations, and procedures associated with compliance inquiries, including application of compliance rules and criteria and ability to make appropriate decisions.
- Provide individualized outreach to students based on identified risk factors including academic and financial; mental health issues and assisting them in developing individual plans for success.
- Refer and connect students with relevant College resources, coordinate with College stakeholders regarding additional outreach and support.
- Provide coaching to students to assist them in reaching their goals.
- Connects students with relevant resources on campus (Counseling, SOS, ALS, Tutoring, Veterans, and Financial Aid) and proper services off campus.
- Work in conjunction with the Detroit Regional Chamber DSF staff to align student support and integrate HFC students into the larger DSF cohort.
- Work closely with 1st year, 2nd year, and 3rd year DSF students to increase persistence, retention, and graduation in their program of study at HFC by helping students engage in campus support services and navigate college life.
- Provide representation for Student Orientation Programs and represent the College in a professional manner that creates respect and confidence.
- Monitors and records progress of individual students; maintaining consistent and confidential records of individual student data.
- Work collaboratively with other departments and services across the college to understand processes, systems, and services and to resolve student issues.
- Work collaboratively with Academic Advisors, staff, and faculty to ensure attainment of the specified career community objectives and outcomes.
- Work independently, exercising good judgment, decision making and follow-through in student service matters with internal and external constituents.
- Keep current on new technologies to promote student success; participates on committees and task forces related to student success and completion; generates reports that assess the success of students using college and departmental metrics.
- Track student visits, phone calls and emails and will respond to student and employee requests within 24 hours.
- Contribute to the development of program webpages that pertain to student program completion and success.
- Support students during the summer in the successful completion of all college transition processes.
- Supervise work interns placed in the program.
- Serve on college committees as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
