The physics lab associate will provide lab support and technical services for HFC instructors teaching physics, physical science, astronomy, and engineering. The physics lab associate will coordinate with instructors and ensure all equipment needs are met for in-class demonstrations and in-lab experiments and that all storage areas are maintained in a neat and orderly fashion. This position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This is a 12-month position.Â

Hours: Standard daytime work hours are expected, but deviations may occur based on workload. Â Schedule changes will be determined and finalized with supervisor and may change based on departmental needs and the College's operations.Â

- Education: Bachelor's degree in Physics or related discipline.
- Experience:Â Demonstrated experience with physics laboratory techniques; Demonstrated knowledge of standard laboratory safety protocols; Demonstrated familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and procedures.
- Arithmetic/Mathematical Reasoning - Performs computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division correctly; solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical techniques such as formulas and percentages.
- Â Ability to perform standard laboratory calculations.
- Computer Skills - Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
- Eye-Hand Coordination - Accurately coordinates one's eyes with one's fingers, wrists, or arms to perform job-related tasks (for example, to move, carry, or manipulate objects).
- Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, or legs.
- Ability to walk, push, pull, kneel, stoop, and lift up to 20 lbs.

- Maintain a binder of physics lab equipment with photos and location (arranged alphabetically) in case the lab tech is absent
- Maintain a clean and tidy lab room (in coordination with facilities)
- Maintain and repair equipment
- Maintain and update computers/digital devices
- Maintain library of lab manuals and equipment documents
- Maintain a Lab prep binder with setup pages for each experiment # (this would be very helpful if the lab tech is out absent and someone else needs to step in and setup the lab(s)
- Coordinate demonstration/experiment schedule with instructors
- Set/strike experimental equipment/supplies in lab rooms
- Set/strike demonstration carts for instructors in lecture rooms
- A posted lab experiment schedule by week would be helpful
- Order/Receive/Assemble new equipment and supplies (in coordination with instructors)
- Maintain a purchasing binder (by vendor) with REQs and packing slips
- Repurpose/Discard unused or unwanted equipment (in coordination with instructors)
- Work closely with the chemistry lab tech to learn the basics of lab/cart/room set-up in both areas so the physics and chemistry lab techs can serve as backup for each other during vacations, absences, etc.
