Responsible for following established procedures in preparing specimens of tissue for microscopic evaluation by physician, in order to provide information on the functioning of tissues and organs and other information relative to the cause and progress of the disease; prepare histological stains and chemical solutions, conduct pH testing/adjusting, process frozen sections, and perform other related duties as required; perform testing, processing, and reporting of results; obtain surgical specimens and orientate them on a supporting medium according to special diagrams from physicians; process specimens including placing specimens in cryostats, cutting extremely thin sections and mounting sections on glass slides for review; stain the microscopic slide and cover slides with appropriate mounting medium for protection and preserving of the tissue specimens; utilize and apply knowledge of pH testing/adjusting, histological staining, epifluorescence imaging/analysis, SPSS, Excel, laboratory dissection techniques, stereo-imagery, DNA/RNA extractions, PCR thermocycler operation, and agarose gel electrophoresis to perform assigned duties; maintain files on slides by tissue identification number and the location of tissue’s slide in the file; and responsible for the maintenance and orderly condition of assigned equipment, instrument, and work area.

Education: Bachelors Degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Medical Science, Neuroscience and Behavior, or in a related field of study (will accept equivalent foreign degree);
Training: None.
Experience: Two (2) years in the position above, as a Biological Scientist, as a Research Assistant, as a Graduate Assistant, or in a related occupation.
Other Requirements: Experience must include one (1) year use of all the following: pH testing/adjusting, histological staining, epifluorescence imaging/analysis, SPSS, Excel, laboratory dissection techniques, stereo-imagery, DNA/RNA extractions, PCR thermocycler operation, and agarose gel electrophoresis.
Will also accept any suitable combination of education, training and/or experience.
