Job Title: Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Orthopedic Surgery

Inpatient/Outpatient: approx. 50/50 office clinic and OR
Patient Case Load: Adult joint reconstruction practice but a small volume of pediatric office patients occasionally to support practice access.
Position Overview:
Ascension Medical Group – Henry Ford Health System is seeking a full-time Orthopedic Surgery APP (NP or PA) for a multi-subspecialty orthopedic practice in Novi and Howell. The position primarily provides support for an adult reconstructive hip and knee surgeon in both the OR and clinic. The role includes maintaining independent provider office clinics alongside serving as the first assistant in the OR. OR credentials are required, and orthopedic experience is strongly preferred.

We will review candidates without orthopedic experience if the initial pool includes a high volume of experienced candidates. New graduates are possible, if other experience or education represents strong orthopedic interest or skills.
Two practice locations: Novi and Howell
Two surgical locations: both Novi
*Practice is expanding, so locations could shift or be added – Novi likely to remain primary*
Procedures – TBD
Schedule – Minimum of 40 hours per week, providing patient facing clinical care. Monday – Friday, 8a-430p. Some afterhours call.
Weekend requirement – No.
Call requirement – Rotational weekday call – every 6 to 8 weeks.
OR Time – OR days may be extended. (2-3 days per week).
Provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services under the supervision of a physician. Responsibilities: Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.| Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.| Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.| Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care. Qualifications Licensure / Certification / Registration: · BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card will be accepted upon hire, but renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA. · Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. · Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. · Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred. Education: · Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program required. · Master's degree preferred. Work Experience: · 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant in Orthopedic Surgery preferred.
Qualifications:
· NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
· PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
· NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan
· PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Licensure and Certification
· Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
· National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
· Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required by
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
· DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.
o DEA - NPs do not have controlled substance licenses, only PAs. When NPs apply, they will enter MI license number instead of controlled substance license since they won't have a CSL.
