GENERAL SUMMARY :
Under the supervision of the Director (or Manager) of Environmental Services, supervises the operational and personnel activities of the Environmental Services Department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Supervises and lead the personnel in the department in order to maintain the hospital in a clean and orderly fashion.
2. Plans, assigns and reviews the work of the support service personnel, checking quality and quantity. Reviews and evaluate employee's performance. Instructs and advises personnel on methods and procedures. Interviews and recommends the employment of support staff.
3. Monitors assigned areas, observing staff's work performance to ensure housekeeping procedures and safety rules are being followed.
4. Trains new employees and introduce and instruct in the use of new equipment and cleaning procedures.
5. Maintains departmental records on supply inventory staff attendance and work schedules.
6. Checks equipment for proper operation and request repairs when necessary.
7. Performs duties of assigned personnel as required to maintain schedules and efficient department operations.
8. Maintains department budget.
9. Works with vendors, as assigned.
10. Inventories and orders supplies, as assigned.
Supervision Exercised :
Formal recommendations and functional supervision is exercised over support staff.
Personal Interaction :
Daily contacts are made with departmental managers and employees to discuss cleaning schedules or problems. Monthly contacts are made with patients when performing housekeeping tasks in patient rooms.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Higher education preferred.
- Approximately three (3) years of related experience in order to gain knowledge of Environmental Service processes, operation of sanitation equipment and familiarity with materials and supplies utilized in institutional cleaning; including some leadership experience; Health Care Housekeeping (Environmental Services) preferred.
