Job Title : RN - Surgical Technician First Assistant
Job Specialty : Surgical Technician First Assistant
Job Duration : 15 weeks
Shift : 0700-1530, Wednesday and Thursday, 5x8 hours
Guaranteed Hours : 40.00 hours per week
Experience : Minimum years of experience required
License : BLS provider credential from AHA required prior to hire date or job transfer date. American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card is accepted upon hire, but renewal must be a BLS provider card from AHA.
Certifications : Surgical Assistant credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
Must-Have : High School Diploma / GED with 2 years of experience or associate degree or technical degree required. English proficiency required for reading, writing, and speaking.
Job Description :
- Position patients to provide optimal exposure for surgical procedures using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
- Provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate methods, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
- Utilize appropriate techniques to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
- Assist with body plane closures, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
- Participate in room clean-up and the removal of soiled case carts, supplies, and trash from the operating room upon completion of surgical cases.
- Collaborate as a surgical team member in preparing the surgical suite according to surgeon's preference cards with appropriate instruments, resources, and supplies.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
