The Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds is seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Maintenance Technician/Resident Caretaker at its Long Island site. This full-time, year-round position combines maintenance responsibilities with on-site living arrangements to safeguard the property during off-hours.
About the Role:
As Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for assisting with the upkeep of our 325-acre facility, including grounds, buildings, and swimming pools. Tasks may include mowing, painting, equipment repair, carpentry work, and utilizing various tools such as leaf blowers, weed whackers, and skid steers. A regular cycle of work exists based on the season, but tasks are always available regardless of the time of year.
Caretaker Responsibilities:
In addition to maintenance duties, you will serve as the off-hours custodian of the entire campground property. This includes daily rounds to check for signs of trespassers, vandalism, and ensuring doors and gates are locked. You will also respond to visitors, vendors, contractors, and/or trespassers as needed.
Management Structure:
Our leadership team consists of the Property Manager, Site Superintendent, and Assistant Site Superintendent. We prioritize open communication and collaboration among team members to ensure seamless operations.
Work Schedule:
This role requires in-person work, with a standard 35-hour workweek on weekdays, usually starting at 7:00am. As Caretaker, you will regularly work about an hour each evening and two hours on weekends, one in the morning and one in the evening. On-call responsibilities will also apply to respond to emergencies. During the off-season, occasional weekend events may occur, while extended days and weekend work are expected during the busiest periods, typically before the start of camp.
Requirements:
We seek candidates with at least 2 years of experience as a caretaker, maintenance technician, or similar capacity. Relevant experience should include working hands-on with a team to maintain a safe work environment, adhering to OSHA regulations. A valid driver's license is also required. Upon hiring, you will be expected to obtain OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid Certification. Proficiency in general maintenance, janitorial services, and technical skills in areas like carpentry, plumbing, vehicle operation, or framing and roofing is essential. Additionally, you must be able to handle tasks involving prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and stretching, with good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment.
