HJF is seeking a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who will be responsible for clinical assessments and treatment with particular interest in assisting those with chronic pain and

clients with professional therapy assistance involving crisis intervention, individual short-term, martial, group and individual long-term therapy.

This position will be in support of Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Department of Family Medicine, which is based in Bethesda, MD. The project, COMBAT PAIN, is an innovative clinical trial aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of combined acupuncture and CBT in the effort of improving the management of pain and patient outcomes in primary care settings. The Licensed Military Behavioral Health Provider will assist with activities related to the project’s mission, The Licensed Clinical Social Worker will provide Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP) to military patients and dependents. They will need to collaborate with medical professionals to help integrate behavioral therapy with acupuncture, in primary care settings, and support local PI and research staff/team. The individual will also contribute to overall study documentation, treatment outcomes and participating in research activities. This is a full-time position funded through December 2025, with the possibility of annual renewal for up to four years, contingent upon performance and continued funding

Responsibilities

  • Provide Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP) to study participants during their acupuncture sessions as part of the research intervention.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals and research staff to integrate behavioral therapy with acupuncture for chronic pain management.
  • Document treatment plans, progress, and outcomes for research participants following study protocols.
  • Engage in data collection, analysis, and reporting to support the study’s research goals and contribute to publications and presentations.
  • Offer clinical services to clinic patients not enrolled in the study, ensuring continuity of care for military personnel and dependents.
  • Provides a variety of social services to patient and family, such as advising on social problems and helping patient/patient's family identify and understand the social and emotional factors associated with illness.
  • Helps patient or patient's caregivers identify and acquire appropriate social services and specialized equipment.
  • Assesses the need and extent of protective services required in collaboration with the client, their support systems and other public and private service providers.
  • Arranges patient placements into psychiatric or other treatment programs and maintain liaison with therapists and case managers.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and provide insights on patient care, research progress, and data analysis to optimize research outcomes.
  • The incumbent may perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including participation in required training or additional scholarly activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Social Work
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a strong background in providing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), particularly CBT for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP).
  • Experience working in primary care or integrated healthcare settings, ideally with military populations.
  • Strong skills in biopsychosocial assessments, evaluating pain-related psychological and behavioral factors, and tailoring interventions to meet individual patient needs.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including medical, behavioral health, and research personnel.
  • Experience working with military electronic health records (EHR) systems and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports, professional correspondence, and research papers in both Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications
  • A demonstrated ability to balance clinical practice and research activities and contribute to a research-focused environment.
  • Proficiency in oral presentations and developing collaborative relationships.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation:

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$75,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.

Salary : $73,800 - $75,000
