HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. May exercise technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of research studies.

This position will be in support of the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) at the Uniformed Services University (USU). This incumbent will be involved in Injury Prevention Research Laboratory Projects. The candidate will provide scientific, technical, and programmatic expertise to support research studies related to musculoskeletal health and performance optimization in military Service Members. The candidate will support development and conduct mixed-methods research studies, including designing research protocols and grant proposals; managing research regulatory documents; participating in or overseeing data collection and management; collaborating in data analysis and interpretation; and preparing and disseminating results in manuscripts, presentations, briefings, and reports.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Note: This site requires that the incumbent has lived in the US for three out of the past five years.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with, plans, executes, and/or oversees applied field-based research in support of the CHAMP mission, such as research related to human performance and musculoskeletal injury prevention and treatment. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
  • Works closely with collaborators to contribute (e.g. planning, organization) to the successful development and completion of projects.
  • Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and prepares project reports for funding agencies. Presents work internally and externally at scientific meetings.
  • Coordinates and contributes to new grant and funding applications, and supports collaborators in these same efforts.
  • Ensure regulatory documents are submitted and maintained appropriately for USU Institutional Review Board (IRB), HJF regulatory affairs, and collaborating site IRBs. Ensure that all amendments, continuing reviews and adverse events have been submitted to the IRB.
  • Maintains detailed documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted and/or required standards.
  • May train and supervise research staff
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree. Preference for Doctorate level education in related field (Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Previous research experience in a related field (e.g., kinesiology, athletic training, etc.) with a strong interest in applied, field-based military research
  • Well-developed analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust and Common Access Card (CAC).

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office or home office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual range for this position is $57,650-$80,000.00. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
