Position Overview
We are looking for a research assistant to perform analytical testing, analytical method development, and peptide purification to support our drug discovery program and IND-enabling studies. Peptides are at the core of Henry Meds drug discovery initiative, and this position will be crucial to our research efforts to develop novel therapies for metabolic diseases.
The therapeutic group is responsible for the design, synthesis, formulation, and analytical validation of our peptides to enable biological testing and pharmacological analysis of our drug candidates. As a key member of this team, the Research Assistant (Analytical Chemistry) will build the operations and processes needed to deliver the high-quality reagents and data that form the foundation of future innovative treatments. Activities include, but are not limited to, peptide purification and synthesis, analysis, optimization of analytical methods, specification development, and transfer of processes and methods to GMP laboratories. The role involves close interaction with colleagues in the peptide synthesis and biology groups. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of accomplishments in laboratory research, excellent communication and time management skills, and the ability to initiate and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
This position is located on-site at our facility in Charlottesville, VA.

Salary Range: $36-$38/hour
This salary represents Henry Med's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation for this role at the time of posting, and Henry Meds may ultimately pay more or less than the posted salary. The final salary for this position will be determined by Henry Meds sole discretion, consistent with applicable law, and based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the employee’s work experience, skills, and qualifications for the role, as well as the needs of Henry Meds business and other operational considerations.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Purify peptide analogs for testing.
- Perform analytical testing to support drug product development
- Development and optimization of purification, and analytical methods for peptide drugs.
- Use various instruments such as HPLC, LC-MS, MALDI and others to test samples
- Analysis of peptides and complex formulations (including peptides, proteins, adjuvants, and excipients) for in vitro and in vivo studies.
- Performs routine lab maintenance, including troubleshooting and basic repair and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Coordination of work with peptide synthesis and assay specialists.
- Management of timelines and deliverables.
- MS or BS with 1-3 years laboratory research experience.
- The position requires experience in analysis, and purification of synthetic peptides.
- Experience in peptide synthesis is a plus.
- Experience with transfer of methods and data to other laboratories is a plus.
- Any experience or strong interest in metabolic diseases is a plus.
- Familiar with common analytical instrumentation, uses and regular maintenance.
- Expertise in liquid chromatography and solid-phase extraction, including analytical UPLC, preparative HPLC and FPLC.
- Strong understanding of peptide Mass Spec including MALDI-TOF and HP-LC/MS.
- Expertise in Analytical Chemistry, Peptide chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
- Excellent ability to work in cross-functional teams with colleagues who have complementary expertise and experience.
- Strong project management skills in a demanding, fast-paced environment and to deliver high-quality results on time.
