Job Overview
The Certified Peer Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals navigating their mental health and addiction recovery journeys. This position involves using personal lived experience to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to peers in various settings. The Certified Peer Specialist will work collaboratively with clients, helping them to develop coping strategies, set goals, and access resources that promote recovery and wellness.

Duties

  • Provide one-on-one support and mentoring to individuals facing mental health challenges or addiction issues.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage clients in their recovery process.
  • Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans and coping strategies.
  • Facilitate group sessions focused on peer support, crisis intervention, and behavioral health education.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
  • Conduct outreach activities to engage individuals who may benefit from peer support services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Stay informed about community resources and services available for individuals in need of support.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Peer Specialist is required.
  • Experience in social work, behavioral health, or mental health counseling is preferred.
  • Strong skills in crisis management and intervention techniques.
  • Proficiency in motivational interviewing and addiction counseling principles.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to empathize and connect with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of systems related to mental health care and community resources is advantageous.
  • A commitment to ongoing personal development and training in peer support practices.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Pay: $18.35 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 30 per week

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
