What are the responsibilities and job description for the PREVENTION SPECIALIST position at Hereford ISD?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Prevention Specialist is to provide Youth Universal Prevention Services that promote a proactive process to address health and wellness to broad populations without consideration of individual differences in risk for substance use or misuse for youth, families, and communities by enhancing protective factors that increase knowledge, skills, and attitudes for making healthy choices. Universal prevention strategies target individuals due to potentially problematic behaviors and/or related risk factors that place the individual at an elevated risk for substance use and misuse.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred or relevant experience.
- Must be willing to complete all training requirements in the areas of Substance Abuse Prevention.
- Ability to read and understand program requirements.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent public speaking skills and ability to create engaging presentations.
- Effective organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use a personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and data entry, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Must have reliable transportation and have a valid driver’s license.
Experience:
- One to three years experience preferred in the areas of counseling, social work, and/or substance abuse prevention serving youth, adults, and/or families.
