Job Description
The lead barista is a key member of the Heritage Bicycles and Coffee team. This role not only executes our warm, friendly service experience but also creates the hand-crafted drinks that our customers have grown to love. This is a great position for someone who enjoys taking care of others, is passionate about coffee, and works well on a team. This role will act as the onsite leader at a designated shop; this person should be the “go to” person for their location, with knowledge of the day to day operation, specifics of that equipment, and insider knowledge of the business. This role is key to communicate to the senior leadership the operational needs of their designated location.
Job Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for our customers, both through online orders and in person orders; provide exceptional customer service throughout every interaction
- Prepare hot and cold drinks according to the recipes as well as modifying based on customer needs
- Work in a way that maintains a clean and tidy work area while following all city and state health guidelines; assist in maintaining health code standards by leading efforts to clean space and train team mates on proper procedures
- If needed, serve alcohol in a safe manner; maintain a BASSET certification during your tenure; Complete and maintain a Manager Food Handler Certification
- Solve customer problems; ask for help if needed; work to provide a high level of service with each interaction
- Work in a fast-paced environment while staying calm and organized
- Collaborate with your teammates during each shift
- Use POS and technology in place to process transactions
- Process transactions either via credit card or cash; Process credit cards in a safe way and provide correct change to each customer
- Communicate shift needs to the Coffee Director or Operational leaders before, during, and after your shift; work with your colleagues to help address their needs/concerns whenever possible
- Monitor quality of coffee production and perform quality checks each shift
- Train teammates on new recipes and new drinks as they are produced
- Complete weekly inventory and share via inventory and par sheet; communicate needs for pastry and syrups to Head Chef in a timely manner
- Place orders for all supplies needed weekly working with Accounting Manager to stay within budget; provide order details and invoices to the Accounting Manager/Head Chef as soon as they are received
- Report equipment needs to Coffee Director; schedule repairs with vendors on equipment whenever possible
- Assist in training new employees at your location; provide feedback to Coffee Director and senior leadership, when appropriate, and help in coaching and counseling when needed
- Work on projects as assigned by the Coffee Director or Founder to improve our efficiency or general operation
Essential Job Requirements:
- Passion for hospitality and coffee
- 1-2 years’ experience as a Barista or food service role; familiarity with coffee drinks and coffee varieties a plus; experience as a shift lead, trainer, or lead barista a plus
- Ability to maintain a BASSET certificate and Chicago food handlers license
- Must possess a positive attitude and the ability to smile under all circumstances
- High integrity with a great attendance record
- Strong attention to detail, especially when working under pressure
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
- Operate telephone, personal computer/keyboard, Microsoft Office including Word and MS Outlook, community software including a POS
- Participate in training in order to comply with new or existing laws
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends where business demands
- Neat, clean, professional at all times throughout the workday and/or whenever present at the community
- Comply with expectations as demonstrated in the employee handbook
- Demonstrate ability to diffuse and respond to customer concerns to avoid escalation of the problem.
- Successfully pass drug test.
