K-3 Literacy Coach at Heritage Elementary School
Ogden School District is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and skilled school-based early literacy coach to positively impact educator capacity to promote early literacy growth for students in grades K-3 at New Bridge School. This literacy coach, through support from SB 127 Early Literacy Outcomes, will engage directly with classroom teachers while maintaining a direct connection to the state-wide work happening at the Utah State Board of Education (USBE).
Principal Duties
As a K-3 Literacy Coach, you will:
- Engage in instructional coaching cycles with K-3 educators to build capacity for improved classroom instructional practices
- Use principles of adult learning to effectively partner with K-3 educators to integrate professional learning into classroom practice
- Leverage knowledge of the science of reading and evidence-based practices to support K-3 educators in maximizing student learning
- Partner with the school’s leadership to support school-wide literacy goals to provide a team of support for K-3 educators to embed the district-wide goals into instructional plans and practice
- Deliver consistent and frequent job-embedded professional learning
- Participate actively in professional learning experiences to deepen knowledge and skills for instructional coaching
- Assist K-3 educators in analyzing data to inform instructional adjustments
- Design and facilitate relevant and cohesive professional learning sessions to strengthen the implementation of these evidence-based practices with educators
- Attend USBE professional learning events and state literacy coach collaborative meetings
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following preferred qualifications:
- A current Utah Professional Educator License
- At least 3 years of instructional coaching or equivalent experience
- At least 5 years of classroom teaching experience in an elementary setting
- A Master's Degree in literacy or other relevant areas
- LETRS Certified or has completed LETRS 3rd edition
- Deep understanding of the science of reading and evidence-based practices
- Extensive data analysis experience with Acadience Reading
- Strong professional learning facilitation skills
- Effective coaching skills including relationship building, understanding of adult learning principles, and the process of engaging educators in job-embedded professional learning
The successful candidate will be required to pass a Science of Reading Assessment administered by the Utah State Board of Education's early literacy team.
CONTRACT:
Contract Length: 183.5 days with the option of an additional 20 days.
- The 20 additional days will paid, at the hourly rate, above the contracted days for professional development and position preparation
Start date: August 11, 2025 (with the option of 20 additional days with supervisor approval)
