Summary
The Health Safety Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of all employees. Reporting to the VP of Clinical Operations and Quality Programs, this role supports and coordinates multiple aspects of safety, and employee health programs, while collaborating closely with HR, Compliance, and other departments to foster a safe and healthy work environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the VP of Clinical Operations in overseeing safety, and employee health programs.
- Conduct audits, surveys, investigations, and risk assessments to identify areas of vulnerability, recommending corrective measures and implementing approved action plans to ensure compliance and minimize risk.
- Coordinate pre-employment screenings with HR, ensuring required documentation, drug screenings, TB tests, and physical exams are completed.
- Manage ongoing compliance for TB/CXR, FIT tests, Flu clinics, and exposure incidents in collaboration with HR and Compliance.
- Conduct ergonomic inspections and provide recommendations in collaboration with HR.
- Serve as the Unit Disaster Coordinator, executing drills, Code training, and Workplace Security and Violence Prevention training.
- Assist in developing and maintaining compliance and safety policies, ensuring adherence to government regulations.
- Collaborate with the Safety & Compliance Committees and Administration to regularly review and update policies and procedures, including the annual review of the Safety Manual.
- Serve as Chair of the Safety Committee in collaboration with the VP of Quality & Compliance, organizing quarterly meetings and ensuring the committee membership aligns with organizational needs.
- Work with HR and Health Education Department to promote employee health and engagement through wellness classes, BLS training, coaching, and individualized safety training as needed.
- Provide monthly training topics for department meetings and administer OSHA training in New Hire Orientation, updating materials as necessary.
- Manage the electronic incident reporting system workflow in partnership with the VP of Operations.
- Collaborate with HR, the Risk Manager, and the Manager of HR to review incident reports, ensure timely facility repairs, and track follow-ups.
- Oversee the Hepatitis B program for employees, manage the Safety Incentive Program, and maintain the Safety Newsletter.
- Ensure compliance with immunization and health requirements for all employees, including new hires.
- Coordinate and conduct safety meetings and trainings as directed by the VP of Clinical Operations and Medical Director.
- Facilitate communication of policy changes across departments to ensure consistent awareness of safety, updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Licensure: Current RN License required.
- Experience: RN with prior Employee Health experience desirable. Knowledge of Employee Health regulations preferred; Three years of experience in healthcare compliance or quality management.
- Experience with Medicare and Medicaid programs is preferred.
- BLS Trainer Certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Knowledge: health care industry practices with preferred emphasis in managed care at the medical and/or health plan group level.
- Skills: Ability to utilize Microsoft applications/software (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word, etc.) and other computer software/applications.
