Summary

As a Cabinet Maker Apprentice at HWC Custom Cabinetry, you will be instrumental in crafting high-quality custom cabinetry that meets our clients' needs and preferences. Located in N. Charleston, this role is vital to our mission of delivering exceptional craftsmanship and design to enhance residential spaces.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely and effectively operate CNC machinery and shop tools for cabinetry manufacturing and assembly.
  • Inspect cabinetry materials and sheet goods for defects before and after machining, adhering to a high standard of quality control.
  • Route, edge band, assemble, and wrap standard cabinets including those with common functional hardware such as Lazy Susans, upswing doors, trash pullouts, and similar with minimal/no supervision.
  • Adhere to all manufacturing and facility safety standards.
  • Accurately label parts with the corresponding materials for the job, following outlined processes and procedures.
  • Maintain department utilizing the lean concept of 3S; sort, sweep, and standardize.
  • Prioritizes tasks according to schedule control; accomplishing work at a steady pace to maintain production workflow.
  • Safely operate forklift to store or retrieve job materials.
  • Carefully move and wrap cabinetry parts to prevent damage from dropping, scraping, dinging, etc., thus minimizing the need for reworks and corrections.
  • Effectively communicate job progress, potential problems, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Possesses a cooperative working relationship with team members, clients, vendors, and other outside contacts.
  • Reports to work on time, ready for the 6:00 a.m. shop huddle daily.

Qualifications:

  • MUST have proficient computer skills and math skills.
  • Ideal candidate will have previous CNC experience or possess strong mechanical skills.
  • Comprehension of basic cabinetry construction and terminology is preferred.
  • Experience with the use of tools; preferred candidate will enjoy working with their hands and tools, with a mind for following plans to run machinery and assemble cabinetry.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift; previous experience helpful, but will train the right candidate.
  • Ability to read and write English well; all of our plans and procedures are in English for this position and will require someone who can read and write efficiently and follow written instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Conscientious time management and robust work ethic.
  • Exceptional material handling.
  • Physical_ ability to lift 70 lbs_ and to work on your feet for 10 hour shifts in manufacturing environment and in the cold/heat; the environment is not climate controlledand utilizes space heaters and fans in safe locations.
  • Commitment toteam workand effective communication skills.
  • Adhere to safety standards and quality standards.
  • Ability to identify and report problems to the appropriate lead or supervisor.
  • Has spatial awareness; this position will require an individual to move parts and carts with varying shapes and sizes in a space that may tight or limited due to increased production volume.
  • Ability to read and follow assembly sheets and plans; reading small print is critical.

Hours:

  • Monday - Thursday, 10 hour shifts, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Overtime may be available on Fridays
  • Two 15 minute paid breaks daily
  • 30 minute unpaid lunch break
