What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machinist position at Hermeus?
Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.
The Manufacturing Team at Hermeus are the boots on the ground. We have a vast array of experiences ranging from welding, additive, tube bending, machining, integration, and avionics. We are a lean team who are responsible for building a vehicle that will fly. We provide crucial design feedback to our engineering team and can rapidly iterate on design and assembly.
We’re seeking a motivated and dependable Machinist to join our Machine Shop team. In this role, you’ll support day-to-day shop operations including running the waterjet and laser cutter, performing deburring and finishing operations, and keeping the shop organized and efficient. This is a great opportunity to grow your hands-on manufacturing skills in a fast-paced, high-tech environment.
\n- Operate and maintain waterjet and laser cutting machines
- Perform deburring, grinding, sanding, and general finishing tasks
- Support the machinists with part handling and preparation
- Maintain shop cleanliness and assist with organization of tools and materials
- Follow safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment
- Assist with inventory management and material tracking
- Learn and grow with mentorship from experienced machinists and technicians
- High school diploma, associate degree, or equivalent certificate
- 5 years of experience in setting up, operation, and/or programming of CNC mill or lathe machines
- Experience programming in Mastercam or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
- Strong communication skills and ability to read and provide feedback on technical documents
- Ability to train operators how to set and run machines
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted
- Ability to stand for extended periods - 8 hours min
- Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
- Repetitive movement, bending or twisting, using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls, exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting
- Experience with waterjet or laser cutting equipment
- Familiarity with basic CAD/CAM/Flat Pattern Programs (Teamcenter, NX, TruTops Boost, IGEMS)
- Experience operating manual and/or CNC machines
- Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems or experience executing to work instructions
