Theater Staff Job Description
All theater employees may be trained to perform each of the positions listed below. The manager, based on the needs of the business, will assign your specific position.
USHER
The usher is responsible for checking tickets, cleaning, assisting customers, and general crowd control. The usher must periodically check each auditorium for disruptive customers, feet on the seats, spills, etc., as well as assisting with questions or comments that customers may have.
The usher is also responsible for checking the general presentation of the movie (sound, room temperature, film in focus, etc.) while visiting each auditorium.
DOORPERSON
The door person is responsible for greeting customers, checking their tickets, and providing directions to the correct auditorium.
The door person is the theater’s “greeter” and must provide friendly and professional customer service at all times.
The door person may be assigned to perform some duties of the usher as business requires.
CONCESSION ATTENDANT
The concession attendant is responsible for selling concession items to customers. The attendant must be able to efficiently and accurately operate the concession register, take money from customers and give accurate change, and provide excellent customer service.
The concession attendant is also responsible for operating concession equipment, such as popcorn poppers, hot dog and nacho warmers, cheese and butter dispensers, and soft drink fountains. The concession attendant is also responsible for re-stocking and counting inventory items such as cups and candy.
BOX OFFICE ATTENDANT
The box office attendant is responsible for selling tickets to customers. The box office attendant must be able to efficiently and accurately operate the ticket-selling terminals and ticket printers, take money from customers and give accurate change, and provide excellent customer service.
The Box Office attendants are responsible for cleaning and upkeep of their work area (the ticket booth and counting room). This includes, but is not limited to, washing windows, taking out garbage, sweeping, and dusting.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS OF ALL STAFF POSITIONS
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Must be available to work all theater shifts, INCLUDING evenings, weekends, Sundays, and holidays.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Must have 20/20 vision, or vision correctable to 20/20.
Must have reliable transportation to work.
Must be able to lift and carry 35 pounds.
Must be able to climb ladders to an approximate height of up to 10 feet.
Must have or obtain foods service worker permit.
Cleaning duties include but are not limited to:
General cleanliness of the entire work area.
Removing all trash and debris from the seating area in each theater after every show.
Emptying garbage cans as necessary and after each show.
Cleaning of spills throughout the theater, as soon as they are discovered.
Regular cleaning and inspection of all restrooms.
Regular cleaning of theater lobby windows and storefront, including cleaning window and door frames, sweeping the sidewalks, and removing gum and other debris.
Regular cleaning of lobby stanchions, stands, and other equipment.
Cleaning handprints off windows as necessary
Regularly cleaning and dusting box office counters, cabinets, and other surfaces or equipment throughout the day.
General cleanliness throughout the theater.
Regularly cleaning concession counters, cabinets, and equipment (popcorn poppers, pop fountains, straw & napkin dispensers, etc.)
throughout the day.
Regularly cleaning food storage containers, utensils, refrigerators, freezers, and other equipment.
Sweeping and mopping the floors behind and in front of the concession counter, as well as in food preparation areas.
