This role is critical in supporting our customers with expert product knowledge, proactive sales engagement, and superior service.
Role Overview
As a Design Sales Consultant in the Hardware & Plumbing Division, you will be responsible for assisting customers with product selection, generating quotes, processing orders, and conducting detailed job-site takeoffs to ensure project specifications are met. The role emphasizes relationship-building, sales execution, and technical accuracy to support contractors, electricians, and homeowners effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Engagement & Sales Support:
- Provide expert product knowledge and technical guidance to customers in the hardware and plumbing sectors.
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with contractors, designers, and builders to drive repeat business.
- Respond to inbound inquiries via phone, email, and in person at our counter.
- Recommend appropriate hardware and plumbing solutions for residential and commercial projects.
- Meet or exceed monthly sales and customer engagement targets while maximizing opportunities within the existing customer base.
Order Management & Job-Site Takeoffs:
- Process orders, generate quotes, and follow up on sales opportunities.
- Conduct detailed job-site takeoffs to ensure accurate material selection, compliance with project specifications, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure all product recommendations align with customer needs and industry standards.
Collaboration & Process Optimization:
- Work closely with outside sales and purchasing teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new hardware and plumbing products, and local building codes.
- Assist in optimizing internal sales processes for greater efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Education: A high school diploma is required; a college degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
Experience:
- Preferred experience in inside sales, hardware supply, plumbing, construction, or wholesale distribution.
- Strong understanding of hardware, plumbing materials, tools, blueprints, and specifications.
- Experience conducting job-site takeoffs to ensure material accuracy and project efficiency. Skills:
- Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with order processing software, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of local building codes and ADA compliance is preferred.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with occasional job-site visits as needed.
- Regular full-time hours with occasional overtime during peak sales periods.
