This position is responsible for creating, growing, promoting and enhancing the Hernando County Government’s digital presence through multiple forms of media. This position also ensures the county's presence for visitors or public interaction is as positive experience and as accurate as possible. Maintains a high degree of initiative, flexible work style involving independence as well as teamwork, strong organization and follow-up, multi-tasking, and above all interaction with a diverse group of staff, citizens, and community partners.
Emergency Response
County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description. Minimum Qualifications

- Requires developing and maintaining ongoing external relationships with local stakeholders, media, journalist, private businesses and other industry related professional associations.
- Ability to create and present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in written, oral, and graphic form.
- Ability to operate a computer and industry-related software such as Adobe Premiere and Constant Contact.
- Independent judgment guided by general direction is required to research and communicate information.
- Develops brochures and other marketing materials. Develops media plans.
- Organizes and updates the film and photo library.
- Responds to film location request and sets up special events such as ribbon cuttings and ceremonies for the County.
- Assist in coordination of press conferences, public hearings and special community meetings.
- Works with departments to enhance their outreach digitally on the website and social media.
- Effectively creates media campaigns for each department.
- Manages email marketing, positive promotions, social media, and any other multimedia content.

- Bachelor's degree in mass communication, public relations, marketing, or similar field.
- Three (3) years of professional experience in video editing, advertising, public relations, marketing, graphic design, website development, email marketing content, journalism work, or related field.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License and be insurable by current insurance carrier.
Required Competencies
- Knowledge of the methods, principles and practices of journalistic print and broadcast writing and editing.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of public relations.
- Knowledge of the techniques of composing and editing publicity material.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal, written, graphic and visual form.
- Knowledge of the requirements of social, press and media broadcasters.
- Ability to assemble and write a variety of news releases, pamphlets, and other marketing materials.
- Ability to work weekends and nights, as needed.
- Ability to deal with the public, media, county officials and specialized interest groups in an effective and courteous manner.
- Heavy lifting and carrying (up to 60 lbs); walking, standing, kneeling, bending, and stooping
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction), acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
- Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data, ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment working closely with others.
- May be required to work outside on occasion in diverse environments.
- Some travel may be required to attend local and non-local meetings, conferences, and workshops.
