What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Spray Truck Operator position at Hernando County, Florida BOCC?
The essential function of the position within the organization is to operate a truck and mosquito pesticide spray unit at night to help manage problem mosquito populations in Hernando County. The position is responsible for driving a spray truck and operating spray system to apply pesticides, maintaining assigned vehicles and equipment, providing customer assistance and information, maintaining routine work records, and performing related tasks as assigned. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.
THIS IS A PART-TIME, SEASONAL POSITION. MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH DRIVING AT NIGHT.The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but shall not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.
County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description. Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations: Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with safe driving record
Experience: Education, training, or experience which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills needed for this position.
This position is subject to the Hepatitis B Vaccine and other vaccines as necessary.
Required Competencies:
A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.

Equipment Used: Operates county pick-up truck with spray equipment, tablets, and GPS device.
Work Conditions
The work is regularly performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs. This position is 15-25 hours per week during the mosquito season and generally begin work at 8:00pm each evening. Scheduled hours/days, job location, duties and any other information contained herein is subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.

- Operates mosquito control spray truck 4 - 6 hours per evening as needed.
- Services spray trucks with insecticide and fuel.
- Works with a variety of pesticides.
- Prepares and maintains routine records of operations.
- Loads and unloads equipment/supplies as required.
- Assists in the calibration, maintenance and repair of spray equipment.
- Responds to citizens' requests for service.
- Maintains cleanliness of the vehicles, lab and chemical storage areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in arthropod control or pesticide application
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
- Ability to learn and use tablets for data collection.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate truck-mounted mobile spray units.
