What are the responsibilities and job description for the Zoning and Customer Care Technician position at Hernando County, Florida BOCC?
The purpose of this position is to assist the Zoning Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Zoning Department and provide zoning and flood zone compliance information.

- Serves as the point of contact for customer service-related issues for the department.
- Assists customers in resolving permit deficiencies or other issues to meet compliance with applicable land use regulations.
- Processes building permits and land use permits regarding land use regulations.
- Responds to correspondence regarding land use matters and zoning verifications.
- Reviews and verifies zoning for residential and commercial properties.
- Reviews and issues floodplain determinations and certifications.
- Examines recorded deeds for proper land splits and determines legal access.
- Provides assistance to staff and customers as needed on floodplain determinations.
- Assists in preparing and maintain Community Rating System documents and records for annual reports to the Insurance Service Officer.
- Assists the Zoning Manager with ordinance reviews, amendments, and other projects.
- Participates in preparation of policies, procedures, and ordinance reviews.
- Reviews and responds to vacation of easement applications.
- Reviews and responds to subdivision plat proposals from Planning Department.
- Performs data entry as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Regular attendance.

- Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
- Three (3) years of experience in a general office setting with emphasis on customer service.
- Experience in local government (preferred).
- Knowledge of maps, zoning, and FEMA requirements.
A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License and be insurable by current insurance carrier.
- Obtain Certified Floodplain Manager certification from the Association of State Floodplain Managers within two (2) years of employment and attend continuing education as required to maintain certification.
- Other training as required by management personnel.
