What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floral Designer position at Herndon Florist?
Herndon Florist is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our team for temporary holiday design positions. Pay is based on experience; experienced designers who can work independently will earn between $16 and $18 per hour. Inexperienced designers and helpers will earn $12.50 per hour. This is a great position for learning if you're interested in a floral design career.
Temporary positions will run from February 2, 2025 through February 15, 2025.
The ideal candidate will be expected to maintain an organized and clean work space, communicate effectively, arrive on time, and work efficiently to complete tasks. The ideal candidate will be an efficient vase designer as well as funeral arrangement designer. Inexperienced individuals will work on basics that will help our design team like processing flowers, greening vases, gridding vases, and learning entry level design. Must be able to work in team environment as well as independently.
This position will also help out with answering incoming phone calls from our clients, helping walk in customers select their flowers and ring them up. They will also assist with any flower processing and cooler rotation as needed. **You must be willing to answer phones and help our customers**
**You must be willing to work Saturdays & Sundays as part of your schedule**
Must work holidays and have an open schedule during these times. Our top holidays are Valentine's Day and Mother's Day which each have a busy 2 weeks leading up to them. We are also busy for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and some years, Easter.
Following is an outline of this position’s major areas of responsibility:
- Efficiently and productively design floral bouquets, plant arrangements, baskets, etc. to the specifications of our customer and the policies of this organization.
- Maintain an organized and clean work station and department
- Record low levels of supplies, hard goods and fresh & plant components and report to purchasing manager or care and handling lead for replenishment
- Assist in production preparation – set up containers, green containers, etc. as deemed necessary by design or operations manager
- Continually strive to improve the Herndon Florist design department
- Communicate and interact with other team members in a harmonious way to promote a strong team working relationship
- Be available and willing to help in any department when necessary.
Reports To: Herndon Florist design manager
Education/Experience: Two years of retail floral design experience required. Success in this position will depend upon your ability to maintain focus on goals established and to produce arrangements at a rate that exceeds goals while maintaining quality standards and customer satisfaction.
