Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

NP - NICU

Full-Time

Nurse Practitioner candidates for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will have the following job responsibilities:

  • Neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) are advanced practice nurses who specialize in providing care to acutely ill babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
  • These nurses have advanced skills in physical and psychosocial assessment of the newborn, and handle transport of acutely ill babies.
  • We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) to join our client's team in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  • The NNP will provide advanced nursing care to critically ill neonates and support families during challenging and emotionally charged situations.
  • The ideal candidate will work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Direct Patient Care:

    • Perform comprehensive neonatal assessments, including history taking, physical exams, and diagnostic testing.
    • Provide management of complex neonatal conditions such as respiratory distress, prematurity, congenital anomalies, infections, and other critical care issues.
    • Administer medications, therapies, and interventions as appropriate, including advanced life support techniques when necessary.
    • Monitor neonates' vital signs, lab results, and diagnostic tests to ensure timely interventions and changes to treatment plans.
    • Assist in the management of ventilators, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), and other advanced therapies.
  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
    • Provide counseling and support to families, ensuring they are well-informed about the condition and progress of their newborn.
    • Participate in rounds, patient discussions, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Procedural Support:

    • Perform various neonatal procedures, including intubation, lumbar puncture, umbilical line placement, and other minor interventions as required.
    • Assist with the preparation and stabilization of neonates during transport to higher levels of care when needed.
  • Education & Training:

    • Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff, providing education and guidance on best practices for neonatal care.
    • Participate in ongoing education and professional development to remain current with neonatal care advances and evidence-based practices.
  • Documentation & Compliance:

    • Accurately document all patient care activities in the electronic health record (EHR).
    • Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies.
    • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and outcomes.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS-


Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Nurse Practitioner candidates for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit must meet the following minimum job qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • NNP-BC certification.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner specialization.
  • Minimum one (1) year of recent Neonate NP experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or recent completion of a Neonatal ICU Fellowship.

License/Certification:
  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.

  • Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Hold current AHA BLS.
  • Hold current AHA NRP.
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.


Compensation

Base Salary - USD $178,524 to $233,020
