Your Opportunity We are seeking a talented, part-time (16 - 20 hours per week) intern to join our coastal team in Bellingham for 8-10 weeks between May – September 2025! As a Coastal Science Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working with spatial data, field-based data collection, site investigations, analysis, and reporting in the Salish Sea. This role will involve a mix of fieldwork and office tasks, offering you the opportunity to apply your learned skills in a professional environmental setting. Here are some examples of what you might work on : Digitizing historical shoreline features from aerial images Documenting beach conditions, vegetation, armor status, habitat attributes, etc. Researching site conditions, including surface geology, landslide history, known forage fish and seagrass presence, and other site-specific attributes Mapping built features in relation to tidal water levels Other fieldwork and office tasks could include assisting with wetland delineations, assisting with stormwater investigations, or conducting background research in support of reporting or permitting Minimum Qualifications Education, Experience, & Licensure / Certifications A rising college junior, senior, or graduate student currently pursuing a degree in  oceanography, geology, environmental science, geography, or other related field Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities ​​​​​ Positive attitude and solid work ethic Self-motivated with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines Aptitude for learning new systems, processes, and industry specific knowledge Ability to work independently and as part of a team Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Critical thinking and analytical skills Experience with basic computer software including Microsoft Office Suite Ability to maintain professionalism, including punctuality and reliability Ability to apply field data collection protocols and  apply technical skills to project demands Ability to navigate uneven terrain Ability to work a hybrid schedule (mix of on-site and remote work) for 8-10 weeks in Bellingham, WA between May and September 2025 for 16-20 hours per week Preferred Qualifications Experience with GIS software Application Deadline : February 28, 2025 Applications will be reviewed once the application period has closed.   Additional Information This is an hourly, non-exempt, temporary internship position. The pay rate is $23.04   per hour. The position is not eligible for benefits unless where required by city, state, or federal law.
