Your Opportunity

We are seeking a talented, full-time summer intern to join our Restoration team in Missoula for 12-16 weeks between April 28 – August 2025!

The main project for this position will be to assist with field data collection for a botany survey in the Bitterroot National Forest.  The intern will receive training the week of April 28 for survey protocols and other necessary health and safety training.  Field work is estimated to be May 5 through at least June 13 for five days a week. Once field work is complete, the intern will be assisting with data compilation and other fieldwork and office tasks for projects in the Missoula, Montana area. This work offers you the opportunity to apply your skills in real-world environmental science applications. 

Other fieldwork and office tasks could include assisting with wetland delineations, reconnaissance-level surveys for wildlife and botanical resources, and conducting background research in support of reporting.   

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Licensure/Certifications

  • A rising college junior, senior, or graduate student currently pursuing a degree in  botany, environmental science, landscape architecture, forestry, wildlife management, planning, or related field

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Positive attitude and solid work ethic
  • Self-motivated with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines
  • Aptitude for learning new systems, processes, and industry specific knowledge
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Experience with basic computer software including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, including punctuality and reliability
  • Basic plant identification skills or interest in field data collection
  • Familiarity with vegetation communities of the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain and conduct fieldwork for 10 hours per day, five days per week
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule (mix of on-site and remote work) for 8-12 weeks in Missoula, Montana between April 28 and August 2025

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship, professional, or volunteer experience in a similar field

Additional Information

This is an hourly, non-exempt, temporary internship position. The pay rate is $22.08 per hour. The position is not eligible for benefits unless where required by city, state, or federal law.
