Mid-size law firm seeks a full-time legal assistant. Our professional environment requires someone with initiative, professional appearance and attitude, ability to work as part of a legal services team, and who is detail oriented and well organized.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provides support to practice group including drafting pleadings for collections, evictions, foreclosures, executions, bankruptcies (creditors not debtors), filing documents with courts, recording documents with county recorders, coordinating with process servers.
- Communications with clients back to get additional information and, if appropriate, conduct informal conflicts check.
- Promptly initiate requests for new files, conflicts checks, and complete the necessary forms for check, credit card and other requests.
- Ensure compliance with case deadlines; updating calendar systems as appropriate; update set-ups, e-mail reminders and appointments, as applicable.
- Conduct basic legal searches in order to locate defendants and heirs for service.
- Draft letter to clients and coordinate disbursement of collected funds.
Education and experience:
- Completion of basic college-level writing or critical thinking courses
- 1 to 3 years of experience working in a law firm, preferably in creditors’ rights and bankruptcy or litigation areas
Skills and other requirements:
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures related to creditors’ rights and litigation. Bankruptcy knowledge a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Document Management Systems (experience with mail merge documents helpful)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong ability to proofread and edit documents
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task
- Willingness to adapt to changing business needs and fast paced practice area
- Superior attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Ability to work in group setting as part of a legal team
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
