What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cellar Technician 1 position at Herzog Wine Cellars?
Herzog Wine Cellars offers a dynamic and inspiring environment where tradition and passion intertwine to create exceptional wines that reflect our rich heritage while embracing innovation. We are currently seeking a dedicated Cellar Technician 1 to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in racking, pumping, clarifying, and blending of juice and wine. You will operate and care for filters, pumps, presses, hoses, and other cellar equipment. They check temperature of tanks during fermentation, stabilizing and storage.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs the following duties, but not limited to:
- Following written and verbal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Performs volume calculations for wine blending and wine movements
- Transfers, racks, filters, and blends wines as needed
- Mixes tanks as needed for cold stability
- Gases head space on partial tanks on a weekly basis
- Makes chemical and yeast additions to wine as needed
- Responsible for sanitation of cellar area equipment and tanks
- Samples tanks as needed
- Responsible for monitoring and replenishing cellar inventory of supplies
- Monitors temperature of wine tanks
- Cleans, maintains, and organizes barrels as needed.
- Assists in set up and clean up duties, including cleaning of labeler parts, hosing down floors, and storing packaging materials
- Assist with still wine barrel work
- Occasionally responsible for hand labeling, stacking and removing bottles from cellar walls
- Assists with all harvest duties

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Accuracy and attention to detail a must.
Knowledge / Technical Skills: Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills; Understanding of principles and practices of the organization, planning, dependability, adaptability, and confidentiality are necessary attributes. Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required. Skilled in operating standard office equipment, including but not limited to, computers, telephone systems, calculators, copiers, scanners, and facsimile machines.

Compensation:
Salary range between $24.00 - $26.00 hourly – may be eligible for additional, discretionary incentive compensation based on the individual and the company’s performance.
Compensation will be determined by a number of factors including educational background and experience.
