Overview

TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Traction Electrification Systems (TES) Senior Superintendent in San Jose, CA to join our team. The Senior Superintendent of TES will assist the Director of TES in the operation and maintenance responsibilities for the electrified territory.

The electrified territory features approximately 50 miles of auto-tension Overhead Contact System (OCS) for the two-track railroad from San Francisco to San Jose, with ten Traction Power Facilities (TPF) strategically located throughout the system.

The pay range for this position is $160,000 - $185,000 yearly.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
  • Report to the Director of TES.
  • Ensure employee and the public’s safety while on the railroad property.
  • Comply with all State and Federal regulations, safety and railroad policies, rules, and procedures Maintain training programs and schedules.
  • Attend joint agency meetings for review and planning of new and ongoing projects.
  • Execute strategies and solutions to resolve problems that affect TES and rail operations.
  • Assist the DGM of TES in overseeing the daily operations of the TES department, including power isolation, Traction Power Substation, and OCS routine maintenance and repair.
  • Continually monitor and evaluate Isolation processes to ensure absolute safety and maximum productivity, reporting all findings to the DGM of TES.
  • Support the DGM of TES in the management of IBEW agreement and non-agreement department staff.
  • Work with the DGM of TES in developing standards, policies, and procedures to be used by the TES department and others.
  • Support all department-specific TES training and assist the TES Trainer in the development and implementation of the TES Training Program.
  • Assist the DGM of TES in directing maintenance activities to ensure a state of good repair for the TES assets.
  • Track maintenance issues against manufacturer and installer warranties to identify those that may be compensable.
  • Responds to TES emergencies impacting the operations.
  • Coordinates the allocation of resources to maximize productivity.
  • Assist the DGM of TES in the implementation of short-term and long-term department goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee’s safe working behaviors and productivity.
  • Provide directives for TES Superintendents and Power Control Supervisors in their daily work activities.
  • Develop TES Work Schedules that incorporate sitewide isolation needs with items identified by the Overhead Line Measurement System (OLMS) and planned monthly, bi-monthly, and yearly TES maintenance requirements.
  • Coordinate Maintenance of equipment and calibration/repair of tooling, test equipment, and protective gear.
  • Participate in rotational “on-call” emergency duties for weekends and holidays.
  • Respond to emergency and routine events.
  • Perform critical thinking while under operational pressure.
  • Create reports and logs for system events and incidents.
  • Ensure timely train operations to achieve service goals and ensure high-quality customer service.
  • Monitor conditions affecting train movements and apply corrective actions.
  • Undertake appropriate actions to sustain alternate service in the case of service disruptions.
  • Formulate emergency plans consistent with department goals, standard operating procedures, and special instructions.
  • Coordinate the implementation of emergency plans within the Operations Department and with other departments and/or agencies following the appropriate protocol.
  • Work to sustain interdepartmental cooperation and response toward the goal of resuming scheduled service during service interruption.
  • Identify patterns of service failures for investigation and correction
  • Support and model professional standards in all communications.
  • Develop a team environment, among CCF personnel, other departments, and contractors.
  • Perform investigations, developing summaries and root cause analysis for TES issues, accidents, injuries, and near misses.
  • Mentoring, training, and evaluations of TES Superintendents.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation, and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field AND a minimum of 3 years’ experience with Traction Power or Utility maintenance.
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, 5 years of related experience may be considered. Experience can include, but is not limited to:
    • Management of electrical operations or installations of Trolley, Light Rail, and/or Commuter Rail.
    • Management of operations or installations for critical and/or complex electrical systems/facilities.
    • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices associated with high voltage.
    • General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) qualified or the ability to become GCOR qualified within three months.
    • Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and their equipment.
    • Experience with collective bargaining agreements.
    • Experience with maintenance activities associated with TES.
    • Experience managing and responding to emergencies that occur during 24-7 operations.
    • Experience working in the transportation industry
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Excellent communication skills

    Pre-Employment Requirements

    • Subject to a pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.

    • Complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

    • Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
    • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
    • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
    • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period.
    • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
    • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
    • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals.
    • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
    • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
