Job Description
As Superintendent, you will lead field operations to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality projects, utilizing your innovative problem-solving skills. You will manage both self-performed and contracted work, ensuring compliance with contract documents, project schedules, and safety standards, while promoting company culture and fostering team morale to ensure overall project success.
Duties & Responsbilites
- Provide technical direction and oversee HESS employees and subcontractors’ operations to ensure timely, high-quality work
- Engage, mentor and develop HESS team members to foster a high-functioning team
- Ensure quality control throughout the life of the project, maintaining high standards in line with project and company requirements
- Implement and enforce safety procedures and inspections per the HESS Safety Manual
- Oversee inspections and conduct daily site checks using the HESS safety checklist to ensure all work complies with codes, drawings, specifications, etc.
- Maintain detailed and concise daily project records/logs
- Assist with development, distribution, and tracking of RFIs and submittals
- Complete punch lists and track the status of completion
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of staff charts, project schedules, and demonstrate an understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the project
- Manage the coordination of HESS field employees and subcontractor activities, directing subcontractor foremen as necessary
- Use professional interpersonal and written communication to effectively convey information to project personnel and stakeholders
- Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders and personnel, utilizing knowledge of owner contract, subcontracts, and vendor agreements
- Develop and execute a plan to successfully sequence work, manage jobsite logistics, and track materials and personnel
- Monitor and prepare a two-week look-ahead schedule with updates for the Project Manager
- Leverage experience and problem-solving skills to predict and identify potential issues and develop contingency plans to ensure project schedule success
- Drive your team to complete assigned project/s on time and within budget
- Exceed owner and stakeholder expectations by anticipating their needs, desires, and goals, strengthening relationships with industry professionals to generate and secure more work
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, construction management, related field, or 5 years of field experience, preferably with a general contractor on large-scale projects
- Extensive knowledge of construction processes, including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, close-out, and personnel management
- Experience leading field operations and communicating plans effectively to various audiences
- Working knowledge of applicable safety and building regulations (i.e., OSHA)
- Exhibit leadership based on experience and sound judgment to plan, execute and accomplish goals
- Align with HESS values/standards of practice
- Proficient with Construction/Contract Management Software and tools including Autodesk, Bluebeam, Procore, etc.
Preferred Certifications*
- USACE CQM/NAVFAC
- OSHA 30 Training
- Erosion & Sediment Control (MD/VA)
- First Aid & CPR Certification
- Responsible Land Distributor Certification (VA)
- Scaffold 8 hour Compentent Person
- USACE 24 hour Fall Protection Competent Person

- HAZWOPER 40 HR - Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response
- LEED AP BD C - Building Design & Construction
