Job Purpose: The Gantry Crane Operator is responsible for operating gantry cranes to lift, position, and move loads and observes hookup to determine safety of loads.
Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operates gantry crane to lift, position, secure, and move loads and observes hookup to determine safety of loads.
- Cleans and maintains gantry cranes and hoisting mechanisms.
- Loads trailers according to load out sheet, unloads trailers, organizes trailers and equipment, brings tractors up to the dress sheds.
- Offloads tanks from the product line, helps load fiberglass tanks, and keeps inventory of tanks in the yard.
- Completes safety sheets and assist in training Riggers.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. Secures tools, materials and equipment at end of day.
- Performs additional duties as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Loads out contractors with tanks, walkways and concrete pads.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude to learn crane operations. Similar equipment knowledge and experience in operation required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed information to customers, coworkers and management.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as invoices, procedure manuals and job instructions and basic problem solving skills.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to use hand tools. Ability to use power tools, such as drill and saw.
- Ability to use department equipment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.

- The work environment is usually an indoor setting with frequent exposure to outside elements. The noise level in the work environment is frequently high. This position requires infrequent travel, which may involve exposure to extreme weather elements.
