Principal Data Security Engineer

We are seeking a leader to drive our strategy for safeguarding sensitive information, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing our defenses against data exfiltration risks. In this role, you will serve as a recognized expert in Data Security, applying innovative solutions to complex challenges while providing technical leadership on high-impact projects and programs. You will also play a key role in cross-functional initiatives, sharing your expertise through mentorship and knowledge exchange across the organization.
The Data Security Principal role will involve evaluating and selecting the appropriate DLP tools, configuring security policies, and ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure. You will provide expert guidance on best practices, risk mitigation strategies, and regulatory compliance requirements. Additionally, you will include continuously monitoring and refining the DLP solutions to address emerging security threats and training internal teams. Beyond DLP, you will also contribute to the development of data encryption strategies, identity and access management (IAM) controls, and overall security architecture to safeguard sensitive information. You will work on incident response planning, vulnerability assessments, and identifying potential threats across the organization’s data landscape. Supporting regular audits, compliance reporting, and proactive risk management will also be key responsibilities of the role.

Role Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-wide DLP initiatives across endpoints, email, cloud, and network channels.
- Collaborate with IT, Legal, Compliance, and Privacy teams to define data security policies and standards.
- Evaluate, design, and implement DLP solutions with a phased approach from Monitoring to Blocking.
- Integrate DLP across on-prem, SaaS, IaaS, and hybrid cloud environments in partnership with cloud security and IT teams.
- Leverage SIEM, SOAR, and UEBA tools to monitor, investigate, and respond to potential data security incidents.
- Automate DLP response workflows and fine-tune rules to minimize false positives.
- Develop and oversee playbooks and escalation paths for handling DLP alerts and insider threats.
- Support forensic investigations of data breaches and drive continuous improvements in detection and prevention.
- Conduct gap analyses to assess compliance with data protection regulations.
- Advise on data handling best practices and risk mitigation in collaboration with Legal and Privacy teams.
- Support audits and risk assessments related to data security, retention, and governance.
- Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, engineering or related area of study preferred
- 8 years of experience in Cybersecurity including technical leadership experience in Data Security, DLP, or Insider Threat Management.
- Experience with data classification, encryption, and access control models.
- Hands-on experience with SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR, and Insider Threat monitoring tools.
- Extensive understanding of Cyber and IT security risks, threats and prevention measures
- Strong knowledge of cloud security and SaaS data protection (e.g., M365, AWS, Google, CASB solutions).
- Deep understanding of data protection laws and regulatory compliance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
