General Summary
The Cardiac Device Clinic Specialist/RN provides quality cardiac rhythm device services to patients throughout the Aspirus Heart Institute service area.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
" Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience. Participates in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
Patient/Staff/Environmental Safety
" Identifies opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, and patient and staff safety. Participates in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.
Cardiopulmonary Process
" Demonstrates competence in device interrogation and interpretation.
" Analyzes results and communicates those results to physicians in a timely and professional manner.
" Effectively manages the device in the perioperative setting. Assist the operating room staff as needed with an implanted device in surgical patient.
" Identifies and works with noncompliant patients. Demonstrates effective patient and device follow-up management to maximize patient well-being and the function of the device.
" Maintains long-term patient and device care.
" Manages all technological aspects of each device effectively.
" Acts as a liaison and resource for various healthcare departments, patients, and physician offices.
" Acts as a liaison between device company representatives and staff.
" Develop additional services to grow and maintain the program.
" Writes and updates policies and procedures and patient education materials.
" Provides in-service training for hospital departments.
" Manages time to meet deadlines; accommodates demands of patient care with a variable workload.
" Complete MRI forms for provider signature and assist with device pre/post MRI.
" Perform QRS Optimization
" Assist the Emergency Department as needed with patients presenting that have an implanted device.
" Researches new technology.
" Provides recommendations with regard to recall and advisory issues to physicians.
" Assures patient care IT application maintenance and upgrades are performed.
" Chart reviews to identify educational needs and quality assurance.
" Maintains accurate medical records.
" Responds and actively participates in emergency situations.
" Implements safety/risk management standards.
" Posses and exercises good public relations and interpersonal skills.
Professional Development
" Attend department meetings, mandatory in-services and other continuing education offerings.
" Supports unit committees, task forces and project activities.
" Participates in quality improvement activities and incorporates recommendations into practice.
" Maintains quality standards, i.e., safety, hazardous waste and infection control.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Education
" Knowledge of patient care standards and practices acquired through completion of an Associate Degree in related health sciences, or equivalent, with an Associate Degree in cardiovascular, cardiopulmonary, nursing or biomedical electronic sciences or a Bachelors Degree in cardiovascular/cardiopulmonary sciences or nursing beneficial.
" Knowledge of ECG interpretive skills (identification and differentiation of arrhythmia), cardiac clinical assessment, and routine cardiovascular pharmacological agents (indications, use and effects).
" Knowledge of the technological aspects of devices (pacemakers, ICDs) i.e., pulse generators, leads and electrodes, sensing, stimulation, timing cycles, algorithms and defibrillation concepts.
" Completes Basic ECG class and passes with 85% or higher within one year of hire, or tests out of class.
Experience
" Previous cardiac related experience beneficial.
Required
" Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire - All clinical personnel in identified job codes are required to maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) training through independent study, online manikin and knowledge testing. An acceptable training program is the Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider course from the American Heart Association or the client Professional Rescuer Program with AED. (See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training Policy).

" Successful completion of the IBHRE (International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners) Certification Examination for Competency in Cardiac Rhythm Device Therapy desired within 3 years of hire.
" ACLS desired.
