Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Procurement Technologist to support our procurement processes in the chemical industry. In this role, you will lead our Supplier Development / Single-Sole source (surety) / Region to Region and Growth programs for procurement, identifying and driving these opportunities both with the supply base and internally. You will work closely with the procurement team and other departments to drive efficiency, streamline the new supplier development and purchasing processes, and ensure the seamless integration of procurement with technology in development of new suppliers and materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemistry and procurement, with the ability to manage the supplier development process, identify new materials, evaluate suppliers, and contribute to cost-effective purchasing decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Sourcing And Procurement Of Chemicals

Identify and source chemicals, reagents, raw materials, and laboratory supplies necessary for production and research. Ensure that the sourced products meet the required specifications, quality standards, and compliance requirements.

Supplier Relationship Management

Develop and implement a supplier scorecard and create a stage gate process aligned with Product management, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, EH&S and Regulatory to quickly approve new materials for production. Facilitate communication between suppliers and internal teams to resolve issues and optimize supplier performance.

Regulatory And Compliance Oversight

Ensure that all chemicals and raw materials purchased comply with local, national, and international regulations. Stay updated on changes in chemical regulations and advise internal stakeholders on compliance matters. Assist in managing contracts for chemical suppliers, ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements. Track contract expiration dates, renewal terms, and ensure suppliers adhere to contractual obligations.

Process Improvement & Automation

Continuously evaluate procurement processes and identify areas for automation, digitization, and efficiency improvements. Drive projects that implement technology-driven solutions that reduce manual work and enhance procurement cycle times.

Quality Control And Assurance

Assist in ensuring that all procured chemicals are tested and meet quality assurance standards before use in production. Troubleshoot quality issues and work with suppliers to resolve any discrepancies.

Project Management

Lead the supplier development pipeline process working with Commodity Managers to identify procurement-related projects addressing single source and new product initiatives. Manage timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure projects are completed successfully.

Cost Management And Optimization

Monitor and analyze chemical purchasing costs. Develop cost-saving strategies, such as supplier consolidation, bulk buying, and long-term contract negotiation. Track spending and ensure procurement activities align with budget constraints.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.


Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or chemistry roles with a focus on sourcing chemicals or raw materials.


Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of chemical properties, technical specifications, and safety standards.
  • Experience in managing supplier relationships within the chemical industry.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and safety standards in the chemical industry (e.g., REACH, OSHA, EPA).
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with a proactive approach to process improvement.
