Laborer

BASIC FUNCTION :

Under close and frequent supervision, the employee will be actively training to learn the tasks associated with a variety of jobs in the operations areas of the plant, while on a probationary period of 90 days.

This employee may work in the same department throughout probation or may move between departments.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Perform work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures of the job
• Show commitment to learning the job tasks
• Work with a strong attention to quality standards
• Follow the rules and regulations for the assigned department and the plant
• Communicate openly and honestly with the supervisor and trainer(s) throughout the probationary period
• Report possible or actual safety hazards
• Responsible for learning the jobs, showing initiative, remaining productive and engaged
• Generate, handle, and / or otherwise manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE :

3 years of industrial work experience.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL :

High school diploma or equivalent.

REQUIRED SKILLS :

• Strong attention to detail
• Demonstrated work ethic focused on safety and excellence
• Understanding of and focus on safe work practices
• Basic knowledge of commonly used math, spelling and writing
• Basic ability to learn and understand maintenance, production and manufacturing concepts
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with others
• Ability to perform common calculations and measurements
• Basic computer abilities in order to communicate by email and locate necessary files for the job

PREFERRED SKILLS :

Basic knowledge of Microsoft products and experience with Outlook email is preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS :

Industrial / Chemicals / Plant based manufacturing environment Subject to varying road and weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures including out-of-doors.

Works near moving mechanical parts and / or rotating equipment and sometimes at heights.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

A Probationary Laborer migrates throughout the plant to learn a variety of jobs, tasks and skills. The work may be done inside or outside.

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.

climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.

Required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted in many production and maintenance positions), a bility to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential.

M ust satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical assessment.
