What are the responsibilities and job description for the Divisional Assistant Controller – Affordable Housing position at HG External?
Reports directly to the Divisional Controller – Affordable Housing. Leads a small team with direct oversight of the work product of a team of ten accountants. This position will focus on ensuring the timeliness, completeness and technical accuracy of HumanGood’s affordable housing financial data and information for its over 100 owned and managed communities. This position will allow the Affordable Housing Finance accounting team to achieve optimized outcomes and meet rigorous internal and external deadlines by leveraging their technical accounting and finance expertise to review and refine work product and create and enhance processes and systems.
- Works on technical accounting and development accounting issues that arise to ensure that reporting is done consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Reviews audit drafts and audit work papers to ensure that annual financial audits are produced timely and accurately
- Oversees that financial audits, reports, budgets, projections and analyses are created timely, complete and accurate for HumanGood’s Affordable Housing business line and optimizes workflows related thereto.
- Leads the optimization of procedures, processes, and financial reporting systems governing financial reporting for the communities within the business line.
- Identifies opportunities to improve quality and efficiencies in processes with business process automation, artificial intelligence, or other technologies.
- Ensures that internal controls are being followed by the department.
- Partners with Assistant Controller – Affordable Housing to ensure work product creation is optimized and to develop and evaluate the Affordable Housing accountant team
- Tracks and monitors the timely creation of compliance, tax and other regulatory filings.
To be successful in this role, you would have:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or similar disciplines
- Advanced degree, CPA is preferred
- 3 years of relevant experience in finance including senior living, HUD affordable housing, LIHTC affordable housing, mixed financed affordable housing, development and preservation of affordable housing highly preferred
- Knowledge of the accounting for projects under development and RAD for PRAC process preferred
- Experience with an audit/accounting firm is preferred
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Experience working in diverse groups

Compensation: $110,000-130,000 depending on experience and location
Location: this position is remote, but candidates must be located in a state in which HumanGood operated to be considered. Proximity to Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Philadelphia is preferred.
