2025 Student Intern - Sustainability

Collecting sound data from these buildings informs how to elevate our overall design practice with practical strategies we can share back with our clients and our design teams.

We have excellent summer opportunities for students who wish to gain hands-on experience in an interdisciplinary design firm. Paid summer internships will be /- 12 weeks beginning on or before May 27, 2025 (some flexibility is available). This position is an opportunity to work with our Resilience Knowledge Community to develop a climate change adaptation toolkit to help design teams address climate change risks on their projects.

In this role you will:

• Work with HGA’s Director of Sustainability and Resilience Knowledge Community to translate subject matter expertise from a variety of disciplines into a toolkit useable by design teams on projects
• Gather climate projection data relevant to HGA design disciplines for a variety of locations
• Update HGA’s Resilient Design Guide, including a library of design solutions for climate adaptation
• Create miro templates for climate risk assessment workshops
• Support design team members who are conducting climate risk assessments and designing for climate change adaptation

You will need to have:

• Undergraduate or graduate student standing in an architecture, planning, engineering, sustainability, landscape architecture, construction administration, or other related program with a resilience and/or sustainability focus
• A passion for designing in ways that equitably protect future communities and ecosystems from adverse impacts of climate change
• Familiarity with climate change projection data sources and impacts of climate change
• Class or work experience applying knowledge of climate change risks to a project
• Knowledge of the AEC industry and project delivery processes
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Excellent graphic design / diagram and related software skills (i.e., Adobe Suite)
• Knowledge of online whiteboard tools (i.e. miro)
• Strong organizational skills
• Self-directed and able to work independently

Salary Information:

The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA’s robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Salary Range: $21.00/hour
