The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Fraud Investigator. Our Fraud Investigation team plays a crucial role in investigating and preventing fraud within our various social assistance programs, like TANF, SNAP, and Medicaid. The Fraud Investigator will help investigate fraud, calculate overpayments, and initiate Administrative or Court Action on all Intentional Program Violations, establish overpayment, and oversee collections.
What You Do and How You Do It:
The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services Fraud Investigator position involves investigating suspected fraud in public assistance programs. Responsibilities include interviewing clients, verifying information provided by them, and conducting home visits to gather evidence. Investigators identify and investigate potentially fraudulent activities such as false statements on applications, undisclosed income, misuse of benefits, and identity theft. Investigators analyze data, calculate overpayments, and document all findings. The Fraud Investigator will collaborate with law enforcement agencies and present findings in court. Investigators are heavily involved in fraud prevention initiatives and staying abreast of relevant laws and regulations. This role requires strong investigative, analytical, and communication skills, along with a thorough understanding of relevant laws and regulations. Perform other work as required.
Here's What You Need:
- High School diploma supplemented with work experience and/or training involving human services program eligibility or case management work and some legal work, which includes court involvement, researching criminal citations and investigative techniques and testimony OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required.
- Bachelor’s degree and one year of human services experience preferably in social services benefit determination preferred.
- Working knowledge of: investigative techniques; public assistance programs; legal proceedings; collection methods; self-defense; public assistance program policies and regulations; terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertains to work responsibilities; applicable laws, codes, policies and procedures, including civil and court procedures; basic human behavior; and social problems and resources required.
- Skill in computer software, word processing and database applications required.
We’re Looking for Ideal Candidates Who Have:
- Excellent organizational, time management, oral/written communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
- Basic math skills to include performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to calculate overpayments and track payments.
- Confidence to testify in court proceedings
- Ability to train others and establish/maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates, law enforcement, other agencies, and others
- Ability to work independently, but also in teams when necessary
- Ability to analyze data, recognize gaps and collect information to prepare reports.
- Ability to draw legal and supportable conclusions.
- Ability to apply principles of persuasion and/or influence
- Ability to document data from interviews, forms, and documents
- Exceptional ability to collaborate and achieve performance goals.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is part of an Emergency Shelter Team during times of natural disaster, reporting to shelter duty as required.
