Overview
Job Summary: Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Some of the many skills performed
- Fills physicians’ prescriptions and aids pharmacists in preparing
- Identifies and aids in the procurement of specialty medications
- Prepares sterile products accurately per 797,795,800 guidelines.
- Delivers medications and supplies to patients as per protocols
- Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies
- Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
- Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
- Prepackages medications in unit of use containers.
- Picks up prescriptions and medications for future filling.
- Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately in billing process.
- Generates reports, pick lists and labels as required.
- Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
- Answers requests at the window and makes STAT deliveries to patient care areas when requested.
- Organizes and prioritizes work assignments.
- Maintains logs, records and other required documentation accurately. Files in appropriate locations.
- Demonstrates good verbal and written communication.
- Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat and well-organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean.
- Completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.
- Conducts quality monitors, collects data and completes documentation, as assigned.
- Attends staff meetings. Participates in orientation, education and training programs. Reviews literature and other materials as assigned.
- Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High School Graduate or Equivalent preferred.
College Preferred, but not required
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Registration with the Alabama Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
Pharmacy Technician Certification acquired
EXPERIENCE:
5 Years Retail pharmacy experience preferred
