HHDC a multistate leader in affordable housing and community development is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for their corporate office located in the Chicago Loop. This is a great opportunity to join a growing organization dedicated to improving people’s lives.
The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. The Sr. Accountant is also responsible for summarizing key metrics/information from multiple sources. This individual will work with the accounting team, on-site staff, auditors, and stakeholders and is expected to be detail-oriented to ensure accurate reporting of data.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Compiles and analyzes information for multiple real estate entities.
- Prepares entries to accounts and documents business transactions.
- Prepares cash account reconciliations, accounts payable reconciliations, rent and security payment analysis, monthly journal entries, general ledger analysis, balance sheets, and income statements.
- Prepares related operating/expense analysis reports to outside and participating agencies, general partners and limited partners.
- Prepares spreadsheets and charts to analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital.
- Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected entity’s financial position for other managers.
- Conducts general ledger analysis for multiple real estate entities and prepares detail of internal audit checklist.
- Prepares running daily cash balances; answers correspondence; transmits electronic payments.
- Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
- Assists with the installation, modification, documentation and coordination of accounting systems and accounting control procedures; conducts network backup of Microsoft Document.
- Audits and reconciles mortgage loan escrow activity statements; prepares real estate taxes and related correspondence and payroll tax returns to detail of internal audit checklist.
- Assists with annual audit.
- Assists the Vice President, Accounting with various projects related to the organization’s accounting operation, such as forecasting, closing documents, and insurance analyses.
- Assists with other special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BS/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field is preferred.
- 7 years’ experience as an accountant.
- Must have experience in Yardi and MRI software programs.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software (e.g. Management Reports, Inc.).
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations.
- Experience in accounting in real estate environment processing financial statements for multiple entities.
- Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks proficiently with very strong attention to detail, accuracy and follow up.
- Strong time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Excellent ability to communicate both verbally and through writing.
