Job Description

Job Summary:
The function of the Imaging Units is to provide radiological examinations to inpatients and outpatients, render consultations to attending physicians, and provides diagnostic, therapy and radioisotope services. Stores all films resulting from diagnostic work to ensure rapid location whenever needed either by the attending physician or radiologist.

Job Duties:

  • Direct Supervisor of the section and daily work flow organization.
  • Prepares work schedules and assignments.
  • Responsible for product inventory; order supplies and preparing purchase orders.
  • Resolves conflicts or problems. Take correction action as necessary.
  • Conduct new employee training and participate in selection interviews.
  • May oversee other radiological modalities that are within scope of practice allowed by license.
  • Confirm patient information and verifies the procedure. Select equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of procedure.
  • Photographs images of organs shown on display module, or removes trip printout from equpiment, to obtain permanent record or procedure.
  • Discusses test results with supervisor or attending physician.
  • Documents diagnostic, treatment and patient data in the appropriate record. Documentation must be timely, accurate, concise and complete.
  • Documents any exceptions from established criteria or procedures.


Education: Bachelor’s degree from an approved program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Excess work experience as described below in the experience requirement section or any other responsible professional work experience; which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree from an approved program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.

Experience:

Imaging Experience: Progressively responsible professional imaging technologist/specialist experience which demonstrated a thorough knowledge of imaging procedures and/or techniques such as myelograms, discograms, arthrograms, etc., including the X-raying of such areas of the human anatomy as the chest, skull, gastro-intestinal tract, urinary tract, and vascular system.

Specialized Experience: Progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in one of the following modalities; angiography, cardiac catheterization, computed tomography, echocardiography, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, ultrasound, or vascular in a clinical or hospital environment.

    ARDMS (RDMS)

    • Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants for Imaging Specialist III (Type A) or Imaging Specialist V, positions must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

    Substitution of Experience for Education:

    • Successful completion of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with a certificate or associate degree and two (2) years of professional radiologic experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
    • Excess work experience as described under the Imaging or Specialized Experience Requirement which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

    Pre-Employment Health Requirements

    Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

    Imaging Years of Service Incentives

    Employees in certain Imaging Specialist positions shall earn incentives based on the successful completion of the following years of service:

    • 1 year of satisfactory service: $2,000 bonus
    • 2 years of satisfactory service: $3,000 bonus
    • ($5,000 is the maximum bonus that any employee may receive over the life of this agreement)
